The Best-Dressed Guests At ICON Ball 2024

For the magazine’s 19th anniversary, the theme was “Be Iconic,” and the guests, including the who’s who of Singapore, turned up dressed to kill.

The annual ICON Ball is one of the society events of the year. For the 19th anniversary of the magazine, the ball was held at the Shangri-La Hotel’s Island Ballroom on 30 April. This year’s theme invited guests to be iconic, and they did not disappoint with outfits from brands including local couturier Frederick Lee (a crowd favourite) to couturier to the stars Harry Halim. This year’s ball was attended by nearly 300 guests, including industry titans, entrepreneurs, and celebrities such as actors Fiona Xie, Glenn Yong and Chen Yixin.

This year, the magazine gave focus to arts and craftsmanship through a new docu-series called “The Icons,” which featured luminaries in photography, music, fashion, and fine art. Among the subjects were fine art photographer and Cultural Medallion winner Chua Soo Bin, photographer Russel Wong, jazz musician Jeremy Monteiro, jazz singer Joanna Dong, fashion designers Lai Chan and Priscilla Shunmugam, as well as artists Lee Hock Moh, and Ling Yang Chang. Several of these cultural icons, including Chua and Monteiro, were in attendance, while Dong dazzled the crowd with a performance of three songs halfway through the dinner.

Singer Joanna Dong was also one of “The Icons” highlighted by the publication this year.

On the theme, editor-in-chief of ICON Sylvester Ng says, “We wanted the theme this year to raise the bar on the extraordinary, celebrate individuality in all its many creative self-expressions and create a truly outstanding gala event bar none. ‘Be Iconic, Dare to Stand Out,’ so aptly captures a bold, fearless spirit, a dynamic verve for one’s own unique sophisticated style and a call to many possibilities and expressions of what iconic means.”

And the crowd did not disappoint with their eye-catching headpieces, attention-grabbing gowns and jaw-dropping jewellery. One of the highlights was the presentation of bouquets to the 20 women were selected as the evening’s best-dressed, in keeping with the spirit of the theme.
